Humanitarian Logistics and Healthcare

SCH-MGMT

This course covers the unique challenges and prospective solutions associated with humanitarian logistics in emergency mitigation and preparedness, disaster response, and recovery. The course overviews the similarities and the differences between commercial supply chains and humanitarian relief chains, introduces performance metrics, and provides tools for the analysis and design of supply chains for humanitarian critical needs products, as well as for the coordination and learning of humanitarian organizations. It also covers such major issues as material convergence and earmarked financial funds for disasters. Guest speakers, who are experts in emergency preparedness, humanitarian healthcare, and advanced communications, will provide additional in-depth knowledge and practitioner-based experiences to support the lectures, textbook, primary source reading materials, including journal articles, case studies, newspaper articles, and videos in the course.

Applied Sport Marketing Research

SCH-MGMT

The research process is useful in every aspect of sports business. This course presents a managerial as well as technical perspective to research. Quantitative and qualitative tools, techniques and methods of applied research are explored in the framework of general guidelines for empirical work. Topics will include sampling techniques, research design, data collection, and problems of measurement. Statistical methods such as frequency, variability, sampling, and observation will form the basis for performing applied industry research.

Business and AI

SCH-MGMT

The class introduces business students to AI in a thorough but non-technical manner. We consider the history of AI and then look at developments in machine learning (ML) which have driven many recent commercial applications of AI. We will compare and contrast traditional natural language processing (NLP) and traditional expert systems, with ML systems based on deep learning. Student will be assigned readings and instructional videos which will be assessed through weekly quizzes. There will also be a class discussion and a hands-on ML exercise that will demonstrate how some of these AI systems "learn."

Mastering Agile Scrum

SCH-MGMT

This course will develop a student?s mastery of cutting-edge project management techniques in Agile and Scrum methodologies, technologies, and toolkits. The student will be able to successfully develop and manage Agile teams, apply sound judgement to appropriate method implementation, ensure project outcomes, and influence business stakeholders. The course will include practical experiential learning, in a teams-based setting, to lead and demonstrate various Agile and Scrum tools and techniques.

Organizational Strategy

Capstone course requiring application of knowledge and techniques derived from previous courses. Course presents strategic management theories and frameworks, uses integrative cases, and leverages empirical observations to guide students in the formulation of successful firm-level strategies.

Principles of Managerial Accounting

Managerial accounting for non-accountants. Focus is on the use of accounting information to improve planning and control activities in business enterprises. Topics include determining the costs of products and services, assessing product and project profitability, and budgeting and monitoring costs and profits. Prerequisite: ACCOUNTG 221.
