I graduated in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and found that my HTM double major set me apart from other candidates during the interview process. Interviewers were intrigued to learn about my work experience at Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) and my time on the Isenberg Culture and Tourism Management Study Abroad Program.

The HTM double major was a natural way to double my network in college. I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with many like-minded individuals who I never would have met without adding my HTM double major during my Sophomore year. I loved the unique opportunities offered including the two-week Business in Italy trip and the Beverage Management & Restaurant Operations Management classes.

Having an HTM double major has broadened my skill set and versatility. I can apply analytical skills from my OIM classes into my HTM classes and vice versa. Revenue management impacts many sectors of the hospitality industry. I plan to work closely with hotels, resorts, or restaurants and find ways to maximize their profit. These are skills that I’ve gained both through HTM and OIM.

I believe the biggest advantage of graduating with an HTM double major is the endless opportunity. HTM has many career opportunities that can also be paired well with other majors. Being an HTM double major, I gained many skills I would not have if I didn’t study the industry.

My double majors made me a prime candidate for post-grad positions in the corporate world because they encompassed a wide range of business-related capabilities. While my OIM major validated my technical skills, the HTM background ensured that employers knew I was good at working with people—something critical for all businesses to succeed.

My HTM Degree helped me land my first job outside of college as a restaurant manager and my Marketing degree allowed me to take on additional responsibility in that role. When I decided I wanted to become an account manager for a corporate company, my dual degree impressed the talent acquisition team at Workhuman. My passion for working with people and building relationships along with my BBA really set me apart from other candidates and ultimately got me the job in a competitive market.
