Isenberg School of Management’s Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) program ranked No. 5 in the U.S. and No. 17 in the world according to ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). The HTM program increased its rankings from No. 10 in the U.S. and No. 20 in the world from the previous year. ShanghaiRanking’s GRAS is regarded as a comprehensive and objective assessment of global academic programs, evaluating universities across multiple subjects based on rigorous criteria.
The ranking methodology focuses on five key factors: world-class faculty, high-quality research, research impact, world-class output, and international collaboration. These factors highlight universities that lead in academic and professional contributions, mainly through impactful research and robust global partnerships.
Melissa Baker, HTM department chair, celebrated the program's achievement in the global rankings. “We are extremely proud to be recognized as a world-leading hospitality and tourism management program. Rising in the rankings is a testament to the strategic vision, industry engagement, experiential learning, and commitment to elevating the opportunities and possibilities for our students, alumni, and faculty.”
Baker further described the department’s efforts that contributed to its rising reputation and how the Isenberg HTM department’s recent advancements align with ShanghaiRanking’s methodology: “The rankings further confirm our outstanding reputation and commitment to excellence particularly with our world-class faculty’s impactful research in top academic journals, numerous highly cited research faculty, and the impact of our leadership at the Isenberg School of Management with education innovation,” stated Baker. “We have launched several new initiatives including the HTM Pre-College Leadership Academy, are home to several of the World’s Top 2% most cited scientists, and founded the 50th Career Day campaign to support student excellence. The HTM Department also utilizes the Berthiaume Behavioral Research Lab, the largest lab in the Northeast offering eye tracking, facial expression analysis, galvanic skin response, and VR technology to advance the caliber of research produced at Isenberg. We are thrilled to be a part of a program that is on the rise.”
