Ten students from the Isenberg School of Management Club Management Association of America (CMAA) chapter embarked on a journey to Tampa, Florida, in February 2025 for the annual CMAA World Conference. The trip allowed students to network with professionals, gain exposure to the club industry, and share ideas.
Ideas were presented in a format that inspired friendly competition with chapters from across the globe. “This is the second year in a row we have received Best in Show for the Idea Fair,” said Grace Canzano ’25, who attended the CMAA conference. “Our club and our class, HTM 336, are comprised of more Isenberg students than HTM students so it's definitely drawing attention. We discuss marketing, finance, accounting, and even the agronomy aspects as well.” The Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) senior added that Isenberg’s unique approach to the HTM program—including encouraging students from other programs to double major in HTM—opens students’ minds to the world of club management.
Other student participants found the event enlightening. “The event has allowed me to connect with industry professionals and other students, gain insight into club management trends, and develop leadership skills that I can bring back to our UMass Chapter,” said Kendall Famularo ’27. “Through CMAA, I’ve not only expanded my professional network but also I’ve grown personally by stepping into different roles and engaging with peers who share my interests.” According to Famularo, the HTM department and UMass CMAA chapter have also provided countless opportunities, opening the door to all the #HTMPossibilities. “CMAA has introduced me to some of my closest friends, creating a supportive community that has made my time at UMass even more meaningful. I’m grateful for the hands-on experiences and mentorship that have shaped my time at UMass.”
Jack Sorensen ’25 also took away valuable experiences from the event: “This year, we were in the finals for the Shark Tank Award for innovative programs and ideas in the club management field. Although we did not win, making it to the finals among 40 different schools nationwide was a great accomplishment.”
The UMass CMAA Chapter students who attended the 2025 World Conference included Grace Canzano ’25, Kayla Cunningham ’25, Kendall Famularo ’27, Derek Foley ’27, Jen Harmon ’27, Christina Hatzopoulos ’28, Edward Kusumo ’26, Jack Sorensen ’25, Sophia Stessman ’28, and Erica Weimann ’25. They were supported by Rod Warnick, professor and faculty advisor for the Chapter.
