In this course, students integrate concepts across disciplines, develop concepts of business strategy and leadership, and develop as well a working understanding of how such concepts manifest themselves in practice. The course emphasizes integration of all learning experiences in college and it encourages practice through hands-on learning. Students engage in a highly sophisticated online Capstone Simulation "game" whereby (in teams of four) they put their knowledge and skills obtained in all UMass courses and even life experiences into practice by operating a company over an 8-year period and competing with other firms (other teams of students). Students conduct professional business meetings, make professional presentations, and prepare strategic plans for their "simulated" companies. This course includes complex financial modeling and valuation analysis, using excel and Argus software, to aid in the financial analysis and decision making of commercial real estate. The topics covered, using actual Property Case Studies and Student selected projects, are expected to include: Pro-forma analysis including ratio analysis; Cap rates; Calculating cash Flow B/T and A/T, tax on the sale, and cash flow from the sale; Valuation using the Income Approach; Cash flow analysis; Net present value and Internal rate of return analysis; Investment decisions; Financing and structuring the deal using debt, equity, and including investors; Development and development pro forma analysis; Development feasibility analysis; Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities; Real Estate Private Equity Funds; REITs and liquid real estate; Corporate real estate decision-making; and Negotiating skills and strategies.

This course aims to develop analytical, decision-making and communication skills as related to researching and developing interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary solutions to big problems (aka Wicked Problems). The class exposes or ?bursts the bubble? of major issues facing the global economy, cultures, and communities and the global population. The class will look primarily at the UN Sustainable Development Goals as well as other topics. Students will develop knowledge and skills related to: understanding the key problems, debating the merits and implications of the key topics, reviewing potential disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches for dealing with such problems, and developing a research proposal focusing on a global topic.

This course introduces School of Management students to best practices for using generative AI tools (such as Microsoft Copilot) in both educational and industry settings, with a focus on business communication and workflow streamlining. Drawing from rhetorical theory, ethical frameworks, and popular discussions about generative AI, the course prepares students to understand and effectively use these ubiquitous tools in the workplace, while also recognizing when and when not to use them. The course will run in both a lecture and workshop model. Students will participate in robust class discussions and frequently present their own work to the rest of the class.
