Experiential Learning
Be a part of one of the largest VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) programs in the country that offers both foreign and domestic tax assistance. This program allows accounting students to offer free income tax assistance to qualified taxpayers as part of VITA at Isenberg. Students use their accounting knowledge to help individuals file their tax returns, answer pressing tax questions and offer tax-related guidance. The experience gives students an opportunity to hone their people skills and to practice their tax preparation skills in a live setting.
The Semester in the Profession program, more commonly called the “SIP Program,” allows qualified accounting majors to spend part of the spring semester, typically in the junior year, gaining valuable, full-time, professional experience in public accounting. SIP interns typically work 8-9 weeks, enhance their prospects for a career position, and still stay on track for graduation. Participants who complete the program earn up to 15 credits for the semester by participating in an internship practicum course (usually 9 credits) and taking two intensive accounting courses after the students return to campus.
