The summer is over, school has started up again, and you came back to campus with a new experience under your belt: an internship. Internships are an opportunity to learn in a field that interests you, make connections, and get some great experience. Many people rave about their internship experiences, but what should you do if you’ve had a negative experience during your internship?

There can be many reasons why someone may dislike their summer internship. It may not have been what they expected, they may have been sitting at work for 8 hours a day doing nothing, or they may not have liked the company and environment they worked in. Judy Smith, Founder and President, Smith & Company, and Co-Executive Producer, “Scandal,” had her own negative experience as an intern.

If an internship isn’t what you were expecting, remember that there is always something that you can take from any experience. You can find out what works for you in a work environment, what doesn’t work for you, what type of job you want, and what your work ethic is like. Getting any experience is more valuable than having no experience.
