Bruce Le '25, who is majoring in finance at Isenberg along with data science, spoke to Isenberg social media intern Chloe Truong:

Where are you from?

Vietnam.

What year are you?

I am 19 years old and a sophomore at UMass Amherst.

How did you choose your major(s)?

Choosing a major is like a journey to know where your abilities can lead you. I chose finance as my first major. Finance is such an important skill when it comes to controlling my income and having a fundamental ability to monetize my field of study.

Also, recently I have had a chance to experience the technology world. I love the impacts of technology and I was amazed by the potential it holds and how technology can support my career goals, so I started chasing a second major in data science to help me understand more about its applications.

Tell us a little about your future goals?

In the future, I want to make as much impact as possible in education and technology. I come from Vietnam and I have noticed that there are many potential growth opportunities in my home country. I hope that in the future I can establish an organization in either the technology or art industry, and hopefully can contribute to my home country’s development.

How does the curriculum for your Isenberg major support your wider interests and plans?

Isenberg allows me to experience different fields of business—including operations management, marketing, accounting, and finance—before getting deeper into the concentration of my chosen major.

What has been your favorite Isenberg class so far?

I believe OIM 350: Business Intelligence and Analytics is my favorite class so far. I am amazed by how it shows me the procedure and the concepts of business operations, as well as the application of business analytics, data process, etc.

Do you want to pursue any other interest and what is your plan for it?

As I have mentioned, data science is my choice when I’m pursuing my interest in the technology world because I believe that technology has made a big impact on human life, and it is undeniably important to create value and make positive changes to society.

I also have a passion for music, and I have developed my skills in producing and composing music. I believe in the power and the influence of music on the community. I hope to create an impact through combining technology and business to the music industry.

Have you had any challenges in finding a suitable curriculum?

I believe that as long as I let myself be open to new experiences, I can create a curriculum that perfectly suits me.

The Student Spotlight Series shows the diversity and flexibility that Isenberg offers through a variety of program combinations between business and non-business fields.
