Isenberg alumni, faculty, staff, and hiring professionals from partner organizations came together on March 28 to network with current students, allowing them to build their networks, nurture connections, and create meaningful career opportunities. The Next Gen Networking event was hosted by the Office of Career Success at the Isenberg School of Management as part of the Career & Professional Development course in the Business Communication Program.

“I was thrilled to see the Next Gen Networking event bring our curriculum to life,” said Robert Bowse, director of the Isenberg Business Communication Program and faculty lead for the Career & Professional Development course. “Networking training is difficult to simulate in the classroom, so I’m proud of how our students rose to the challenge. The energy in the room as they practiced their networking with faculty, staff, employers, and alumni was a testament to their growth and the value of hands-on experiences like this.”

In groups of four, students met with networking leads in speed-networking practice sessions. After five minutes, students rotated to a new lead, further expanding their skills.

First-year finance major Pragati Mittal found the event highly beneficial.

“This is a great event,” she said. “I’ve met a lot of people and made some great connections.” Sophomore finance majors Andrea Le and Anna Zheng, and sophomore sport management major Chase Balutis were eager to network with alumni and hiring professionals.

The Berthiaume Business Innovation Hub bustled with energy as students attended the event to enhance their professional skills and connect with alumni, faculty, staff, and industry professionals. The event highlights Isenberg's commitment to career development and the practical opportunities provided by the Office of Career Success.

For recent alumna Kathryn DiBlasio ‘23, the impact of Isenberg extended beyond the classroom—and Commencement.
“Isenberg truly shaped who I am and my career direction,” said DiBlasio, who majored in marketing. “It was instrumental in helping me find my voice and take my next steps. My career has taken twists and turns, and I’ve always relied on Isenberg to guide me. Now that I’ve graduated, I want to be a part of that support system for students and help others.”

The event resonated for Ruchi Thakre ’20 MBA.

“We’ve been on the other side, so we know what it’s like,” she said. “Personally, I think the opportunities to network at Isenberg are great. Even in grad school, every semester really exposed students to approaching professionals. I love these events.”

David Orleck ’16, a finance graduate now working in private credit at State Street Bank, reflected on his experience attending the event.

“I’m excited to see what’s going on at Isenberg, and eager to stay connected,” he said. “This event is a good experience for students—I’ve talked to a lot of international students and shared advice. I see myself in them because I have been in their shoes, so it means a lot to give back.”

Five hiring employers, 39 alumni, and 27 faculty and staff members attended. Office of Career Success Assistant Dean Holly Lawrence expressed her appreciation for attendees and volunteers.

“We were thrilled to support the event and are incredibly thankful for all the volunteers who participated,” she said. “We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout.”
