WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR AND WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am an intern for the Amherst College Men’s Soccer team. Working for Coach Serpone and the Amherst College Men’s Soccer Team, I had several organizational and managerial roles. Oftentimes I was using Excel to input data on game-stats, recruiting information, ect. During the season, I would also attend practices and assist coaches in field management. Additionally, during the off season, I would also help with recruitment outreach and more statistical analysis and organization. One of the highlights of working during their off-season was planning a 2-week trip to Iceland for the team and coaches.

HOW DID YOU FIND THE POSITION?

After receiving an email from the Sport Management department about a position opening for Amherst College Soccer, knowing the program’s success, I chose to reach out to Coach Serpone.

WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE LIKE AND WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING?

I am having a great and beneficial experience working for Coach Serpone and the team. As someone interested in coaching and player operations, this experience is giving me the opportunity to see how an elite college program conducts itself. I am learning how a coach interacts with his players and how he must manage all the various moving parts to keep the program successful.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER STDUENTS?

The biggest piece of advice I’d give is to always be observant. Always observe how your boss, or the person you’re working for, interacts with every part of their organization; you’ll never know when a little comment can be significant to you.
