UMass Chapter of Informs is sponsoring a presentation by: Dr. Jurij Paraszczak, IBM Corporate Communications & Corporate Affairs
Refreshments at: 10:30am
Presentation: 11am-12pm
Working together with sales, development, and product teams, IBM Research led the development of technologies, approaches, and solutions that enabled IBM to create a marketplace for products for cities. Rather than follow a "waterfall approach" the teams worked together to run pilots at cities associated with 12 IBM Research Lab around the world. Over 100 projects provided insight into the real operation of cities, the challenges they encountered and the value of Information Technology in improving city operations efficiency. This talk will review these projects, provide insights into the analytical approaches taken and explain how IBM developed a business from this activity.
Dr. Paraszczak currently works as a consultant to IBM’s Corporate Communications and Corporate Affairs group helping develop disaster response solutions. Using a combination of advanced technologies that help manage disaster related data with requirements that emerge from these events these solutions help organize the often chaotic situations on the ground, predict resource requirements and provide advanced analytics which create clearer situational awareness. Dr. Paraszczak retired from IBM Research in 2013 and returned as a consultant to the corporate citizenship group.
