Join us October 28 to 30 for the inaugural DEIB Executives-in-Residence program featuring Beck Bailey, global chief diversity officer and managing director at Accenture and Dr. Anthony Hood, executive vice president and chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer at First Horizon Bank.

The DEIB Executive-in-Residence program, hosted by the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Isenberg, seeks to identify senior executives and board members of leading companies that have a distinguished track record of success with DEIB initiatives. We invite equity-centered executives who have led their organizations through the transactions our students learn about (e.g., mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, restructurings, divestitures, activism, and other global/societal activities).

Throughout the three-day event, our Executives-in-Residence will will be visiting classrooms, providing individual student mentorship appointments, and meeting with Isenberg faculty, staff, and administration and other guests of our university community.

Beck Bailey

Beck Bailey is the Global Chief Diversity Officer for Accenture, responsible for building a culture of equality in the workplace for over 740,000 people in 49 countries. Beck leads a global team that is dedicated to ensuring all of Accenture’s people feel they belong and can thrive. His leadership also sets the firm’s Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) strategy and enables stakeholders to embed inclusive practices in all aspects of the organization to deliver 360 Value for our clients and enable business results.

To help build Accenture’s culture of equality, Beck leads the development of robust programming including specialized training, employee network support, flexible work arrangements, mentoring, equal benefits to same-sex couples, gender affirming benefits, pay equity and more. He also helps the company manage diversity goals and reporting to hold leaders accountable. His efforts to advance Accenture’s I&D agenda help the company access, create and unlock talent and unleash innovation for clients.

Before joining Accenture, Beck was director of the Workplace Equality Program at the Human Rights Campaign where he advised hundreds of Fortune-ranked firms on the adoption of policies, practices, and benefits critical to LGBTIQ+ inclusion. Beck regularly coached C-Suite and other senior executives on understanding the business imperative for LGBTIQ+ inclusion and in developing their own inclusion strategies to advance equality. A recognized expert in LGBTIQ+ workplace inclusion, Beck has been interviewed by NPR, CNN, BBC, the New York Times and more. Beck remains a trusted advisor for many business leaders and now shares Accenture’s insights and best practices with clients, peers and C-Suite executives. 

Prior to his work in inclusion & diversity, Beck’s career includes over 20 years of experience in operations and change management roles. Working across multiple industries, Beck facilitated large scale enterprise system design and implementation projects including human capital management, accounting & finance, and sales & distribution management systems.

A longtime advocate and out transgender man, Beck is passionate about driving belonging for all people at work. He co-chairs the steering committee for the Partnership for Global LGBTIQ+ Equality (PGLE), a coalition of companies and civil society organizations in collaboration with the United Nations and the World Economic Forum committed to leveraging the individual and collective advocacy of its members to accelerate LGBTIQ+ equality and inclusion. Beck currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and Reaching Out MBA (ROMBA).

Beck received his BS in Management from Virginia Tech and his MBA from UMass Amherst.  He lives in Los Angeles with his partner Margaux, two cats, and two yellow labs.

Dr. Anthony Hood
Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at First Horizon Bank

 

Dr. Anthony C. Hood serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer for First Horizon Bank. In this role, he provides strategic leadership and executive oversight for the corporation’s enterprisewide DEI strategy. He also serves on the corporation’s Operating Committee.

He previously served as the Director of Civic Innovation in the Office of the President at UAB as well as an Tenured Associate Professor of Management in the Collat School of Business at UAB.

An electrical engineer by training, Dr. Hood enjoyed a 10 year career with BellSouth and AT&T supporting startup telecom companies in the firm’s wholesale division. He was honored with the Pinnacle Award, the company’s highest honor for productivity and leadership.

He left AT&T to pursue his PhD full time at the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!). Since completing his PhD in only 3 years, he has completed studies at the Harvard Business School, Stanford and the Morehouse School of Medicine.

Dr. Hood received his undergrad and MBA from UAB (Go Blazers!). In 2019, Dr. Hood was honored by the UAB Alumni Association with the prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award.

Dr. Hood is a board member of a number of organizations including the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District, the largest affordable housing provider in the state.
