Spring Break 2026: 🇪🇸 McCormack Graduate Program en España 🇪🇸
On this year’s international sport business immersion trip, McCormack returned to Spain, giving graduate students the opportunity to explore the sport industry in Barcelona and Madrid. Students toured stadiums, attended management strategy meetings, and interacted with fellow students on campus for a case study.
Highlights of the action-packed, week-plus trip included:
- A Sunday afternoon @[LALIGA](urn:li:organization:670735) match at Camp Nou, as @[FC Barcelona](urn:li:organization:37347) faced @[Sevilla FC](urn:li:organization:5266381) in a high-scoring contest. Raphinha drove home two PKs early in the first half in front of our group, and Barca cruised to a 5-2 victory.
- A trip to @[Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya](urn:li:organization:10252663) Motorsport Track, home of the @[Formula 1](urn:li:organization:5143084) MSC Cruises Gran Premio de Barcelona-Catalunya, with a chance to tour the grounds and see a presentation from the marketing team
- A tour of the @[FC Barcelona](urn:li:organization:37347) virtual experience and museum
- A visit to the @[Euroleague Basketball](urn:li:organization:62961) offices for a presentation on fandom and the future of the league across Europe
- A morning session at @[Blanquerna - Universitat Ramon Llull](urn:li:organization:459056), where students participated in a Sport Business Symposium and then a case study on the impact of the NBA on the Euroleague. The morning ended with a sports sponsorship strategy presentation from @[Elena Mazzali](urn:li:person:Tbom5YdakE) at @[ISDIN](urn:li:organization:380614), who spoke on the unique activations the brand has utilized during their partnership with Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz.
- A visit to @[MTP](urn:li:organization:833000) Mutua Madrid Open and Caja Magica, to see the grounds being prepped for the tournament in late April
- A presentation at the front office of @[Liga F](urn:li:organization:91020746) on the future of women's professional soccer and women's sports as a whole across Spain
- A tour and presentation at @[Club Atlético de Madrid](urn:li:organization:1212094), with the opportunity to explore @[Riyadh Air Metropolitano](urn:li:organization:83540216)
- A trip to @[IFEMA MADRID](urn:li:organization:74702), home of the @[Formula 1](urn:li:organization:5143084) Tag Hueur Premio de España in September 2026, with a presentation from the communications team and a view of the mixed circut track.

McCormack needed not one but two events to commemorate the legacy of @[Steve McKelvey, J.D.](urn:li:person:a6zrNhxWV4) and all he has done for the department and @[Isenberg School of Management, UMass Amherst](urn:li:organization:2468374).
Faculty and staff met in December to salute Steve and debut the McKelvey and Burke Families Plaque that will hang in the McCormack Legacy Corner. Having established a scholarship in Steve's name, the Professor Steve McKelvey ’86 Endowed Scholarship will provide support to McCormack undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a career in the game of baseball. Last Saturday, alumni, colleagues, friends and family gathered in the Isenberg Business Innovation Hub for Steve's brainchild: a networking event that would double as a celebration of his illustrious career. We were thrilled to welcome so many people back to campus to honor a life of service, dedication, innovation and community building. Steve brought the sunshine back to campus for the first nice day of the year.
